Genichiro Takahashi was born in Japan. He began his career in the Japanese animation industry at age 18, working for Toei Animation. Takahashi left Toei after five years to join Madhouse, where he became producer of the popular anime series "Ghost in the Shell." Takahashi has written, produced, and directed numerous animated films, including the Academy Award-winning "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time," "Last Knight in Town," and "Princess Mononoke." His latest film, "Grave of the Fireflies" is based on the 1964 Japanese novel by Akiyuki Nosaka. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006
Takahashi has also written several books on his creative process, including "Animation is My Life" and "Anime Magic". His latest book, "Animation is My Life II," covers his creative journey from student to artist to executive.
